Tony Dungy Steps Down

Tony Dungy whose one of the best coaches in the National Football League in the last twenty years decided to retire today.

While some might argue that Dungy's playoff record tarnishes his career (9-10), it still doesnt matter because Dungy was in the playoffs ten straight years he was a coach which not many coaches can say. The other big thing about Tony Dungy is he turned a Buccaneer team who was basically the Lions of the NFL before he came in. With help from Monte Kiffin, they created the Tampa 2 which is stil a very popular defense in the NFL. Even though he was ousted by the Buccaneers due to lack of playoff success, he always had Tampa Bay in the playoffs. No matter what, Dungy got it done with Peyton Manning who many thought would be the next Dan Marino and won a Super Bowl; being the only African-American coach to have that honor.

No matter what I think that Dungy will not come back to coach in the NFL ever again I believe. I think he is a man of his word and when he said he's done, I believe him. He may come back as a Bill Parcells type figure with a team but I cant really see he wanting that control. Granted, many will frown on his playoff record with the teams he had but he still was a great coach.

Dungy will be missed and he is a bonafide Hall of Fame coach.
