Brewers Weekly: Not Pressing the Panic Button Yet

I was going to lead off with the Bill Hall-Mat Gamel situation (possible article later this week, we will see what happens) but I decided to go with this one since the Brewers were swept this weekend for the first time this season. I hope that none of you are worried about our Milwaukee Brewers because if you are right now you are an idiot. If the Crew lose the series against St. Louis starting today then I think you have to worry somewhat but even then, its only May. Also even with that sweep, we went 5-4 on the road trip. The Brewers also need to find their stroke at the plate again, I wouldnt be surprised if Ken Macha decides to mix up the line up a bit because in my opinion, we are in need of that.

Monday: The Brewers finished their sweep of the Cardinals with an impressive 8-4 win. Braden Looper pitched very well in his return to St. Louis and Mat Gamel jacked a three-run bomb in his first start to show everyone what he can bring to the table. Welcome Mat.

Tuesday: Dave Bush had a solid start once again and the Brewers got two big runs in the sixth from JJ Hardy and Prince Fielder which was enough to get the job done against the Astros. Also Trevor Hoffman shut the door for this tenth straight save who continues to impress every day he plays.

Wednesday: The winning streak comes to end with a poor performance by Yovani Gallardo and the Brewers waited until the ninth inning to wake up. I thought that Macha's confidence in Bill Hall throughout the week hurt us overall more than it helped especially in this ball game.

Thursday: It looked like the Crew was going to lose their first series in over month with Roy Oswalt dominating on the mound but after Cecil Cooper got tossed, the whole team seemed lost pulling Oswalt way too early. The Brewers mounted a big four run comeback in the seventh with Corey Hart driving in two.

Friday: Michael Cuddyer hit a three run homer to begin the game in the first leading to a blowout and Manny Parra losing mentally on the mound. Nothing really good came of this game and reminded me how much I hate the Metrodome.

Saturday: The Brewers were did in by the long ball as Joe Mauer and Joe Crede went yard also add in the Crew couldnt figure out Anthony Swarzek in his major league debut spelled disaster for the Brewers. They get their runs late in the game off of the Twins bullpen and lose their first series.

Sunday: Last night was one of the tougher losses all year because not only we were swept but in the way it happened. Dave Bush pitched a great game minus walking Nick Punto who hits under .200 in the seventh leading to a Carlos Gomez single pulling Bush for Mitch Stetter. The lefty has been so tough against other lefties so it seemed like we would get out this being down 2-1. Then he runs a pitch on Mauer which seems to hit the bat not the hand and the umpire agrees until Rod Gardenhire argues like an angry elf to put him on base. Then Stetter grooves a slider to Justin Morneau for the grand slam. Game over, series over.
