Brewers Weekly: Taking the Good With the Bad

I already wrote an article about the starting pitching but I will say this... this has become do or die time for the Brewers with the next fifteen of nineteen being at the friendly confines of Miller Park. They need a couple wins against the Minnesota Twins this week but if you are wondering how concern I am about the Crew? About a 7, it seems like we have no bench and no one can pitch right now, plus add the fact we are facing good teams in those nineteen games... its fair to say that I am bit worried.

Monday: The Crew led off the week with a series against the Cleveland Indians who easily have the worst bullpen in the majors. I almost wrote an article about this game after the Brewers had an impossible comeback after Dave Bush gave up eight runs in a little over three innings. Prince Fielder who had an awesome week hit his first grand slam to give the Brewers the win.

Tuesday: It seemed like this was the day that JJ Hardy would get hot after he had three RBIs in a good win and go on one of his absolute tears where he couldnt be stopped for a month (didnt happen he went 0-11 or so agaisnt the Detroit Tigers). Yovani Gallardo was average at best but it didnt matter as the Brewers lit up the scoreboard.

Wednesday: I couldnt believe that Bill Hall gave us the lead in the 7th inning which led to his personal quota of one homer per month. Also he looked at a homer that barely made it over the wall. Seth "Big Red Nasty" McClung had two great innings then put Trevor Hoffman in a bad position in the 9th leading to his first blown save. The Crew showed resiliently by taking it in the 11th inning.

Friday: It looked like we were going to have an awesome start in Motown as Prince went deep in the first for a 3-0 led then Corey Hart hit a triple with one out where the Brewers couldnt drive him. Braden Looper couldnt keep the ball in the yard leading to a 10-4 rain shortened defeat.

Saturday: The Brewers who always struggle with guys making their big league debut like Armando Figuro was on Saturday against Dave Bush. They actually did good against Figuro but once again Bush gave up a great deal of gophers balls.

Sunday: A great pitchers duel between Yo and Justin Verlander but Yovani missed with one pitch to Brandon Inge leading to a three-run homer. That was all the Tigers needed to complete the three game sweep against the Crew.

Big Game on Tuesday, Lets Go Brewers.

-Charlie.
