If you didnt hear in the sports news world today, the Dominican Republic in the World Baseball Classic was eliminated yesterday by the Netherlands, yes the Netherlands. Their players are mostly from island lands that are owned by Holland, their best player right now is Randall Simon, yes that Randell Simon famous for hitting an Italian Sausage.
They simply shocked the baseball world by beating the Dominican Republic not once but twice in as many days. They only trailed for four outs and they held the powerful Dominican lineup at bay. These team only features two major league baseball players while the DR has so many greats like David Ortiz, Albert Pujols, Jose Reyes, and Hanley Rameriez.
The ESPN poll question was a good one which is surprising but what would be more shocking? Dominican Republic losing in baseball or Brazil in soccer? I think Brazil would be because everyone expects them in the final 16 at least and its a shock when they dont get there. If they were to lose in the first 32, people in the soccer world would be shocked. The other thing you have to take into consider ation that Japan is right there with Dominican Republic when it comes to international baseball, same goes with Cuba. The thing the DR has is the superstars a lot like Brazil.
Dominican's manager Felipe Alou said "I think this proves that we need our best players down here." While its true that Manny Ramirez and Alex Rodriguez would help the cause but still doesnt account for the runs given up. The last one in case your wondering was by a Cub, boom roasted.
