The Weekend of College Basketball Hoops

Another week has gone by and I would like to point out I told you that Duke would lose, same goes for Illinois and I am really starting believe I need a job at ESPN picking college basketball games, I mean I will wear a mascot head if I need to. Anyways here we go..

1. Conneticutt-vs. Michigan- The Huskies who look like the best in the nation after their convincing win against the Cardinals play a Michigan team who has knack for playing top 5 teams tough. Jim Calhoun knows all too well about the 1-3-1 zone and will find a way to beat it in a close one. UCONN 77-71

2. Oklahoma-vs. Colorado- The Sooners got pushed to the limit by the Aggies on Wednesday night and now face a lowly Buffalo team in Norman. Well this game is going to be a blowout and dont have much to say so I will give you this... OKLA 70-54

3. Duke-vs. Miami- The Blue Devils suffered one of their worst losses on Wednesday and will be seeking revenge on the U. Duke also needs a confidence builder as they face their hated rivals North Carolina next week. Miami who crushed Wake earlier this week and is pushing for an at-large bid right now. I really dont see anyway that Miami can beat Duke in Cameron Indoor. DUKE 84-72

4. North Carolina-vs. Virgina- Another top 5 team playing a meaningless team in their conference. I think the Tar Heels need to find way to play without Marcus Ginyard and Quinten Graves coming off their bench but other than that, they will take care of business. UNC 88-71

5. Pittsburgh-at DePaul- The Panthers have had a strong year so far and they headed to Chicago to play a weak Blue Demon team. Once again, not much to say about this game just that it will be a blowout. PITT 73-55

6. Wake Forest-vs. Boston College (Sunday)- The Demon Deacons are going to be damn hungry as they are on the ropes right now. Jeff Teague needs to be find himself again. It will be a good matchup between Tyrese Rice and Teague although I dont see Wake losing this one. WAKE 85-79

7. Louisville-at St. Johns (Sunday)- The Cards suffered their first defeat of the season and they play a Red Storm team that isnt very good. Its so weird how St. Johns hasnt had a great team in years is mind-bloggling to me as they were one of the best in the 80s and 90s. Anyways, they are done for against the Ville. LOUIS 82-65

8. Marquette-at South Florida (Friday)- First off who plays games on Friday? This place has always been a tough place for Marquette and Jerel McNeal's numbers are not that great against the Bulls. I think Marquette will show relistanctly and pull away late. MARQ 75-68

9. Xavier- at Duquense- The Atlantic-10 is a little brother confernece but it has some very good teams in it like the Musketeers, Dayton, and Duquense who has their best record since the 80s. Now they host Xaiver who is going to welcome them back to reality. XAVIER 79-65

10. Clemson-vs. Florida State- The Tigers picked up a great win and proved that they belong in the upper echlon of the ACC after beating Duke on Wednesday. As I said earlier this week that Trevor Booker is an absolute monster and he will continue his reign on Saturday. CLEM 83-75

11. Butler-at Wright State- The Bulldogs suffered their first loss in the Horizon League to UW-Green Bay this week and now play a Wright State team whose very tough on their home turf. I dont think it will matter as Butler gets their revenge. BUTLER 68-53

12. UCLA-vs. Notre Dame- The Bruins are just doing what they usually do, stay consistant. They have consistantly been a top 15 team for the last four years and now face tough non-conference game. The Irish continued their woes after losing to Cincinati and now have lost seven straight games. This is a must-win for the Fighting Irish and while I think Shrek will go off, Darren Collison will be able to lock down Puff the Magic Dragon. UCLA 65-56

13. Purdue-at 21. Illinois (Sunday) Both teams suffered a loss this week and the Boilermakers lost Robbie Hummel with a back stress fracture and I have said it before, they are not the same team without Hummel therefore they will lose. ILLNI 59-55

14. Michigan State-vs. Indiana- Tom Crean returns to Michigan State with a team who got their first Big Ten win which was really sad because I was hoping he would join the Detriot Lions Club but anyways this one will be a slaughter. MSU 78-45

15. Memphis-at 18. Gonzaga- A big time non-conference matchup with two teams who can use the win. I told you guys a couple weeks ago that the Zags have their swagger back and honestly they make them a top 10 team. Memphis is improved but they havent played well against good teams although they have had recent success against the Bulldogs. In the end, I think the Zags will get it done. ZAGS 89-87

16. Syracuse-at 20. Villanova- A big time Big East battle that both teams need bad. The Cuse picked up a good win against West Virgina on Thursday and the same goes for Nova as they beat Providence. Both teams guard play will balance out but I really have a hard time finding a guy on Nova who can matchup with Paul Harris. The Orange win in the last second. CUSE 84-82

17. Texas-at Nebraska- The Longhorns suffered a tough loss to Mizzou earlier this week and now they head into Lincoln which has provided horrors to teams in the past years. The Huskers really need a resume win and this could be it although their best asset is their guard play which is Texas' strength. Texas basketball > Nebraska basketball in terms of talent so that gives the Horns the win. TEXAS 78-70

19. Minnesota-at Ohio State- The Gophers really should be embarrassed by the Spartans this week and could respond with a win in Columbus. The Buckeyes have looked really good in the past couple of weeks and I think they will send Minnesota to a second straight defeat. OSU 64-57

22. Utah State-vs. Louisiana Tech- The Aggies have the longest winning streak in the nation and they play a sub .500 team. I dont know anything about either teams so we will go with the good one. USU 80-62

23. Arizona State-at Oregon State- The Sun Devils snapped a two-game losing streak with thirty-six points from James Harden and now face a much improved Beaver team. I dont foresee Oregon State putting up much of a fight tomorrow. ASU 75-58

24. Kansas-vs. Oklahoma State- The Jayhawks have been playing well of late and the Cowboys could really use a win to bolster their status with the NCAA committee but Kansas is hot right now so I really have hard time seeing them lose inside of Allen Fieldhouse. KANSAS 76-70

25. Washington-at Stanford (Sunday) Man looking back at the week, a lot of the top 25 went down at one point or another. They play the Goofy Tree who is the prime example of playing a cupcake non-conference schedule. The Huskies will take care of business, no one inside can hold Jon Brockman. WASH 58-52
