As most of you know by now, Dominic James broke two bones in his foot last night against UConn and his career at Marquette is officially done.
I told Mach awhile back that Marquette seemed like an NBA team in the sense that everyone has been there for so long and they were never going to leave. Well its time to face reality with the lost of James for the year. Before I go into what I believe Marquette needs to do to weather the storm, I just want to thank Dominic James for his four years at Marquette. We loved him as a the young energetic freshman who could jump through the ceiling and had a knack for the big shots. As a sophomore and junior, he had moments where we got frustrated with him but no one can forget his awesome game winner on the road in Pittsburgh during his sophomore year. As a senior a new Dom emerged, a guy who didnt care about how much he was scoring instead just making plays on the offense and defense. Its a shame that he didnt get to finish out his career like he was supposed to.
Now on to how Marquette handles the rest of the season without him. No doubt about it, Marquette has an uphill battle ahead of them for the rest of the year. They were already undersized to begin with and this makes it even worse. I think Buzz Williams needs to consider starting Jerel McNeal at the point, Wes Matthews at shooting guard, Lazar Hayward at small forward, Jimmy Butler at power forward, and Dwight Burke at center. I truly believe that this gives Marquette the best chance to play at the same level with James.
On Sunday, all we have to do is breathe and know they will give it there best.
-Charlie.
