First Trade of 2009

The first trade was made in the NBA season on Friday when the Miami Heat dealt Shawn Marion, Marcus Banks to the Raptors for Jermaine O'Neal, Jamerio Moon, cash, and a lottery-protected first round pick. This deal isnt really that exciting to be honest because both teams wanted to deal these guys and this trade has been thrown around from the last couple of weeks.

I think this is proof that Marion is a cancer wherever he goes. It didnt work in Phoenix where he was unhappy for two years and finally got out of there with the Shaq deal. Then in Miami where it seemed like he would be a perfect second option for Dwayne Wade and the chances became even better when Michael Beasley got drafted. Now he heads to Toronto whose season so far has been lost for the greater part and they could get into the 7 or 8 spot into the playoffs but I really dont see what Marion can do to make a difference on the Raptors.

Now Jermaine O'Neal was supposed to be the second part of the Twin Towers with Chris Bosh and people expected the Raptors to be right around the top three or four in the Eastern Conference but they falter early which results in Sam Mitchell getting fired. This was a good idea to get rid of O'Neal and let Bosh have the paint to himself instead of having to share. O'Neal has surprisingly having an injury-free year and is putting up around 15-20 a game right now. I think he is going to make Miami a better team and take off some of the pressure of Beasley which will help out.

Heres to a big trade season.

-Charlie.
