Lane Kiffin Headed South

If some of you didnt hear, Lane Kiffin is the new head coach at the University of Tennessee and the reviews have been completely mixed. First off, I am glad that Kiffin got a job after getting royally screwed in Oakland but I do not think this is the right job for him.

Many have said that Kiffin is a dynamic personally and did a great job recruiting during his time at USC and have a good pedigree with his dad, Monty being one of the best defensive coaches in the NFL. Lets remember that he got a job with Al Davis as a USC co-offensive coordinator. Thats practically unheard of and for what its worth, he probably would of good a pretty solid NCAA head coaching job by now. Although I dont think its anywhere near the quality of job he has right now.

He goes into the SEC with four coaches who have won national championships in Urban Meyer, Nick Saban, Les Miles, and Steve Spurrier who all know how to recruit the SEC area, something I am assuming Kiffin is not familiar with. Dont forget, Mark Richt as well whose done a hell of a job at Georgia. As Lee Corso said on ESPN this morning, "Kiffin is going to need coordinators who know the SEC, inside and out." Couldnt agree more, he needs a great coaching staff around him if he expects results at Tennessee.

Kiffin in my opinion seemed like the easy choice as many thought he would get either the Syracuse or Washington job which would both be a great fit for him. So instead of going after Brian Kelly- Head Coach of Cincinnati whose done a magnificent job with the Bearcats this season and in my opinion, is ready to be a premier coach in the NCAA. The Vols were scared of rejection and wanted to make sure they had a head coach before the season was over so going after Kiffin was the logical thing to do.

Welcome to the unforgiving SEC, Lane.

-Charlie.
