The Michael Vick saga is finally over and I feel like kneeling before Pete Rozelle's grave to thank for him for that. ESPN will have a couple more days of the Vick hype and then the first preseason game for the Eagles. A lot of people are wondering why Philadelphia would take Mike Vick but I think I have a couple logical explanations for why this is a great deal for Philly despite the backlash.
Most of you are probably think that the Eagles were in the same position as the Green Bay Packers who showed some interest in Vick a couple weeks ago. The reason being is both teams have quality quarterbacks who are more than capable to lead their team to the NFC Playoffs. The one factor with Philly is Donovan McNabb hasnt always been Mr. Relieble when it comes to injuries and the fans of Philadelphia seem to have hate for McNabb to the levels of former Milwaukee Brewer Bill Hall (I kid). Whenever shit hits the fans for the Eagles, its never head coach Andy Reid's fault: It's all on DNabb's shoulders. I think Philadelphia wants to have a quality back up for McNabb if he gets hurt or just falls apart during the year.
The other big reason any team would be lucky to have Mike Vick is the Wildcat formation. You gotta believe the Eagles' coaching staff was implementing this system in the last couple of weeks to get their lineman and others ready for the package. I mean just imagine Vick back there with Brian Westbrook or LeSean McCoy that is very hard to stop. Consequently, what if they put Vick and McNabb back there at the same time? Wow you wouldnt be able to stop that even if you planned for it.
My final big reason is the Eagles just got the #1 trade bait for the upcoming year. Even though McNabb isnt getting any younger, I highly doubt he will be dealt for Vick unless something happens in-season. If Vick keeps his head on straight and has a good year doing the situational quarterback stuff; teams without good quarterbacks will chop at the bit for Vick. I am talking about Philadelphia getting a couple good draft picks for him and honestly that is what I think the Eagles' plan train of thought.
