I think its fair to say that every big headline story in 2009 is coming to close all this week which leaves me wondering what SportsCenter is going to talk about now in the upcoming weeks. Plaxico AKA "Swiss Plax" Burress has taken a guilty plea heading to jail for two years. Now there has been much outrage on this because Plax got two years for shooting himself and Cleveland Browns Wide Receiver Donte Stallworth only got thirty days in prison for killing a man while driving drunk.
You can be mad if you want but here's the deal since the state of New York especially New York City had big problems with gang violence in the 1990s therefore they put in these tough gun laws. Burress should have known what the punishment was if he were caught with this gun in the club if it isnt registered in New York.
Say what you will but Burress deserves to be in jail for two years. Honestly, I truly thought that Stallworth deserved to be jailed for a long time but sometimes when people have a shit ton of money to afford top-class lawyers; it leads to them getting off with an easy pass if you will. In addition, he is on house arrest for the next two years so I doubt he will play in the NFL in the next couple of years.
Burress is a pretty young guy and I believe he will have a job when he comes out of jail. I think he doesnt deserve an extra suspension by Commissioner Roger Goodell because this is seriously just a mistake in judgement which was a big one costing him jail time.
