The New Favorite Team in the Brew City

I had a conversation with my dad in the early months of the NBA season and he believed that the Milwaukee Bucks would not be here in another ten or fifteen years.  The price of tickets for the "good seats" seems like a pretty steep price for a lot of people and people just seemed pissed about how the Bucks have went nowhere as a franchise.  I should add he cannot stand the NBA, he doesn't understand how 20 point leads are lost and the act of playing uninspired.

Now, I am curious what our conversation would be like with the Milwaukee Bucks playing some of the best basketball in the recent years.  All the sudden, people are behind the Bucks like they have been there for the last several years when the Bucks were just like any other bottom-feeders in the NBA with bad contracts and trades galore.  I cannot say that this upsets me like it did with the Milwaukee Brewers because as a kid, the Brewers were the team I saw the most live and grew up in the shit-years of watching baseball. I liked the Bucks a lot as kid but as I got older, and they got worse, I fell out of love with the Bucks. I might look at the stat sheet see how they did but would never actually sit through entire game.

The one thing that I love about Milwaukee is there are fans that have been there for everything and they stand by their team no matter how good or bad they are then once they get good the whole city is behind them.  Milwaukee is also a great basketball city, a great high school scene in the city and in the suburbs where NBA players have been produced.  They rally behind Marquette and Wisconsin respectively with much vigor and emotion.  When the Bucks were good, Milwaukee wanted desperately to get to the Finals and had not been for the refs (look at the numbers) they would have been playing the Lakers. Unlike Miami or other cities when their team gets good they still act like they are a lottery team, the Milwaukee residents put their full support behind whatever team it is.

For me, it all changed once the Bucks drafted Brandon Jennings.   I definitely was going to follow the Bucks more this season because Jennings has that Ryan Braun-factor that just makes you more attracted to the game. Both of those guys have the ability to do something special at any point in the game and Jennings more so than Braun, can do that much more often.  I watched the second game of the year and the Bucks played like a college team who hustles, take charges, and made quality shot selections. I bought in and made sure to keep updated all the time about the Bucks.

Even though the addition of Jennings is great, a healthy Andrew Bogut is the big difference why the Bucks are doing so well. I think Tim Legler said that "Bogut is a top three or four center in the league."  No one can dispute this when Bogut is putting up close to a double-double a night and at least getting one block.  There are not a lot of teams in the NBA that can keep up with the Bucks inside and outside presence.  I think they could take one of the top four teams at least to a deep series and maybe pulling off the series win.

i grew up watching the both intently and it was especially painful watching the brewers through the years. but it was a breath of fresh air to see them succesful for once. It is also a main reason i still watch them through my stay in minnesota where brewer games came few and far between and is a large reason i have problems watching the bucks now. The bucks well have been bad since letting go of the big 3 and i kind of refuse to get into the hype they are playing well now but i think for them to do well in the playoffs they need jennings to be consistent 16-20+pt 6+assist guy
