The Return of the U

I have this opinion about sports that some might not agree with. I think when perennial powerhouses are at their best, it makes the sport better. When you have teams like the New York Yankees, Notre Dame Fighting Irish, Kentucky Basketball, Los Angles Lakers/Boston Celtics, and so on. I would like add that college basketball/football have many of them and one of those others is the Miami Hurricanes.

When I was growing up it seemed like the Canes were invincible with guys like Sean Taylor, Andre Johnson, Clinton Portis, Frank Gore, and Willis McGehee. That is basically the tip of the iceberg when you talk about notable players from the U that are now complete studs in the NFL. Those are the guys I remember and since the firing of Larry Coker, they have fallen off the face of the earth until now.

Led by Heisman favorite Jacory Harris, the Canes have told the world that they are back in business after their rousing 34-17 victory against Georgia Tech and now can really prove if they are legit against Virginia Tech/Oklahoma in the next two weeks. More on Harris, I think he could be the next big thing. He is young (only a sophomore) can do it with his arm and his feet. I really believe Harris will be in the running for the Heisman at the end of the year. The other thing I am noticing is they have that "We are the best, and you guys aren't even close to our level." They have that fire back the teams who won the national championship and the runner-ups had.

The crazy thing is that if they beat VT and OU, they might be a favorite to be a representative in the National Championship. As crazy as that sounds, they play in the ACC which is comparable in terms of being awful to the AFC West in the NFL. Miami could come out of nowhere and being a contender. I will be tuning in these next two weeks to see if the U can do it.
