Another Problem Child Hits New York

The New York Jets have been acquiring guys seemingly every week of the NFL Offseason, they brought in guys like LaDanian Tomlinson, Brodney Pool, and Antonio Cromartie who all played major roles on their team last season and now they bring in Santonio Holmes for a 5th round pick?!  WHAAAAAAT?!

People have stated the reasons why this happened.  He has always had a bad rap sheet with the off-the-field issues, never developed as a person... could be perceived as immature, and he didn't fit the Steeler family a lot like Plaxico Burress (more to come on the next post).  There is one big reason why this doesn't bother me as much as it does for others is that tell me when Holmes has done anything bad on the field?  When has he been a problem like T.O. or Brandon Marshall?  Never.  Despite having all these issues (look it up, it's stunning), he just plays football, but this has came with consequences.

The off-the-field issues have gotten Holmes suspended for the first four games and I think this needs to be the time to wise up because another suspension means a full year suspension. He needs to not pull a Burress as he is heading in to New York City, which is a weird comparison to make but it definitely can be made.  He needs to be just a player out there who does what he does and focus on football.  People talk about how great Rex Ryan is as a coach for players and I think having a guy like Holmes might be respond to Ryan.  But I do agree dealing with all of these guys who have some issues could become very stressful for the coach.

I think this is going to be a huge assist for the Jets who all the sudden have arguably the best free agent haul of the NFL.  There was an article out somewhere that was publish this week maybe the Chicago Tribune, cannot find it anywhere saying that bringing in all these free agents will not transfer to more wins.  I think the Jets will win the AFC East because I doubt Mark Sanchez will have a sophomore slump and I loved their defense at the beginning of the year, still do.  The Patriots are starting to fall off a bit, the Dolphins seem to be alright yet not that impressed, and finally Buffalo is well... Buffalo.  The Jets need to be done, don't bring Jason Taylor in, or anyone else. I have no idea how many draft picks they have, but draft those guys, that's it.
