The reason I say that is because the Oklahoma Sooner cornerback made a not so smart statement on Sunday regarding Tim Tebow, he said...
"If you look at the three best quarterbacks in the country, they came from the Big 12," said Franks, referring to Oklahoma's Sam Bradford, Texas' Colt McCoy and Texas Tech's Graham Harrell. "The three best receivers in the country came from the Big 12. The three best tight ends came from the Big 12. So we've faced some great offenses, and a lot of people don't understand that other conferences don't have what we face."
While they do play great offense teams, those same teams do not play great defense. I think Oklahoma is right around the 70-90s in ranked defense and I believe they are the best defensive team in the Big 12 so these great offensives are not playing great defenses either. While Tebow has faced four out of the top 20 defenses in the nation.
So maybe that explains why the top of the Big 12 have gotten their asses kicked in the bowl season? Texas Tech couldnt stop Mississippi if their lives depended on it and really look like the Red Raiders of old who could just play offense not defense. Oklahoma State could have put Oregon away but instead let Jeremiah Masoli run/pass all over the Cowoys. Missouri should have lost to Northwestern but the Wildcats threw away a bunch of chances. The only impressive Big 12 team so far has been Kansas and their domination against Minnesota in the Insight Bowl.
Also why give Tebow any more motivation? This guy feeds off the smack talk, I can almost guarantee that he has Franks quote in the locker room and I hope Percy Harvin burns him deep early on in the game.

I Was So Wrong About Utah
My apologies to the Utah Utes and the Mountain West conference, I was wrong about you guys.
If you didnt see on Friday, the Utes crushed 3. Alabama Crimson Tide, 31-17. The Tide had been the primary number one team throughout the whole year. Utah led by Brian Johnson, they were able to throw all over Bama and found that the Tide couldnt handle a hurry-up offense as the Utes strikes for two touchdowns right away. Johnson began his aerial assault throughout the whole game finding Freddie Brown and David Reed. My buddy Mach texted me, "I dont remember Alabama o-line looking this bad." He is right and it could of had something the suspension of their All-American offensive lineman Andre Smith. One lineman would still make a difference because they were getting all their pressure from the outside linebacker and defensive ends.
Now it begs the question does Utah deserve a shared National Championship? I think they deserve to be way up there but this only happens if Oklahoma wins. I think whoever wins, the final rankings should be 1.Florida/Oklahoma 2. USC 3. Utah/Texas (all depends if Texas wins and if its in dominating fashion). I think its reasonable to think that the Utes could play with any of the remaining teams. I think with Oklahoma and Florida would beat them but I do think its close until the fourth quarter at least. Football Special: Rest of Bowl Picks, NFL Wildcard Picks
I am so sorry about the bowls, I should have just done it like I did all year. So here are the rest of my picks.
Texas Tech over Ole Miss (I know they are losing right now but thats who I would have went with)
Kentucky over East Carolina: 17-13
Alabama over Utah: 35-3
Buffalo over Connecticut 20-17
Ball St. over Tulsa: 35-31
Texas over Ohio St: 41-38

Second off, we all expected Edergin James to not be a Cardinal next year but he didnt need to publicly say it. Now on to the game, Matt Ryan is a young quarterback but I think he will be able to lead his team to victory. Also the Cardinals biggest weakness is the rush defense which spells trouble against Michael Turner and Jerious Norwood. ATL 27-13
Indianapolis at San Diego- The Chargers sneak their way in the playoffs but they have to play the NFL MVP Peyton Manning and the red-hot Colts. No teams has been better than the Colts and the Chargers in the last couple months and Manning has always struggled at San Diego though. Although the possibility of no Antonio Gates and a weak LaDainen Tomilson spells trouble for San Diego. Indy pulls away in the fourth quarter. IND 38-28

Baltimore at Miami- Great story of these two last place teams to now make the playoffs. The Ravens were one of the only teams who figured out the Wildcat formation that the Phins run so well. College Basketball Weekend Picks
Now that the Conference season is upon us, more games are likely to be close and there are more upsets. Also the season is much better now in the next two months. Games are being played on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.
1. North Carolina-vs. Boston College (Sunday)- Last year when these two teams met, Tyrese Rice went off for 46 points in a losing effort, dont expect that to happen this year. The Tar Heels should win this game by a good margin. UNC 85-77
2. Connecticut-vs. Rutgers- I would vote this team- most likely I wouldnt want to play this weekend after how bad they looked against Georgetown on Monday. Expect Haseem Thabeet to have a big game after he disappeared against the Hoyas in the last game. CONN 78-63
3. Pittsburgh-at 8. Georgetown- What a showdown this game will be. The Hoyas are showing that they are the real deal with beating UConn earlier this week. A tough turn around for them to play the Panthers but they are at home. The Hoyas need more from their bench if they are going to win this one, I dont see it happening, very close though. PITT 68-65
4. Oklahoma-vs. Coppin State- The Sooners got upset this week by the Razorbacks of Arkansas and now they will take their aggression out on Coppin. OKLA 70-43
5. Duke-vs Virgina Tech (Sunday)- Another game thats alot harder in Blacksburg but the Hokies seem to always give the Blue Devils a game no matter where they are playing. I dont expect Virgina Tech to put up much of a fight. DUKE 82-65
6. Wake Forest-at Brigham Young- The Demon Deacons are off to one of their best starts but they head to Provo which is never a fun place to play for teams. Wake has already made one successful trip out west this year but I dont see it be another one as this is the big uspet of the weekend. BYU 65-63
7. Texas-vs. Appalachian State (Friday)- A good tune-up game for the Longhorns as the Mountaineers will not be able to pull any upsets. TEXAS 84-65
9. UCLA-at Oregon State (Friday)- A big time trap game for the Bruins who are 0-2 when starting the year in Corvallis. The Beavers have been alright under new coach Paul Robinson and the Bruins are slowly heating up. I see the Bruins taking care of business. UCLA 67-60 (The Bruins also play Oregon on Sunday, I dont see them having any trouble in that one either on the road)
10. Notre Dame-at St. Johns- The Fighting Irish looked very strong on the road against DePaul on Wednesday and they head into MSG to face the Red Storm. Notre Dame shouldnt have much problem with St. Johns as they are nowhere near the team they once were. ND 76-64
11. Syracuse-at South Florida (Friday)- The Orange take their show on the road in the ever tough Sun Dome. No one wants to play at South Florida because they usually get two or three upsets during the year. I think the Cuse should be fine in this one but beware of the Bulls. CUSE 75-71
14. Arizona State-at Stanford (Friday)- So far this season, new coach Johnny Dawkins has led the Cardinal to an undefeated season but they are up for a challenge with the Sun Devils and James Harden. Stanford hasnt played one major team so I dont see the Cardinal able to pull this one out. ASU 71-69 (ASU also plays California on Sunday and alot like UCLA I see the Sun Devils have no problem.)
15. Michigan State- at Northwestern- The Spartans looked like the best in the Big 10 in their opener but they play the Wildcats on Saturday who are another team you would rather see on the road. This will be a Big 10 slugfest but Sparty gets it done. MSU 54-50
16. Clemson-vs. East Carolina- Havent we seen this before, the Tigers off to another fast start but they always choke once ACC season rolls around, they shouldnt have trouble with the Pirates on Saturday. CLEM 94-61
17. Louisville-vs. Kentucky (Sunday)- The usual rivalry and is their a chance this one might be closer than the last couple of years? Maybe, the Cardinals arent as impressive as I expected (you were right, Mitchy) and they will win this game although the Wildcats keep it close. LOU 73-64
18. Tennessee-at Kansas- Tough game for the Volunteers as they head to Lawrence to face Rock Chalk Jayhawk who arent the same team as last year but still very good. The Jayhawks will need to slow the pace down somewhat and I think they can do it. KAN 72-65
20. Baylor-vs. South Carolina (Friday)- The Bears have a solid team led by Curtis Jerrells and others. They are somewhat a forgotten team in the Big 12 but they should have no problem with South Carolina. BAY 81-70
21. Minnesota-vs. 23. Ohio State- Tough week for the Gophers as they host another ranked team as they play the Buckeyes. Minnesota needs to cut down on their turnovers to win this game and not go 0-2 to start out the Big 10 year. I think they will get in done in Columbus but it will be a battle. MINN 59-57
22. Xavier-at Virgina- The Musketeers have struggled in the past couple weeks with defeats by Butler and Duke now they head to Virgina where the Cavaliers arent very good, I think the X should take care of business. XAVIER 78-70
24. Michigan-vs. Illinois (Sunday)- The Wolverines suffered their first Big 10 defeat against the Badgers at home on Wednesday so they will have a chip on their shoulder but will have to deal with the up and coming Fighting Illini who defeated Purdue on the road. This is a toss-up but I will take the home team. MICH 65-60
25. Marquette-vs Cincinnati (Sunday)- A classic rivalry going all the way back to the C-USA days and Jason Maxiell hitting Cordell Henry in the balls so no love lost between these two teams. The Golden Eagles will need to find away to stop Yancey Adams and cut their turnovers but they will win. MARQ 74-61

The Favre Fall Out
Let me just say before we start, I said in July that Favre was a media whore. I stood by that claim most of the year, and now there are respected writers like Jason Whitlock, a Favre supporter throughout the year calling Favre the "White T.O."

A very strong statement but maybe its the right one. There are various reports out of New York today that Favre was very distant with the team and spent more time in the office then he did in the locker room with the guys. Now Thomas Jones has came out on the radio and on ESPN First Take saying that "Favre played should have resulted in benching."
Another shot to the Favre fans, the leading AFC rusher thought Favre played that bad that he deserved to be benched. Stunning to say the least, and Jones backed up his comments today saying "If I fumbled twice a game, I would expect Favre to say the same about me." I dont think Jones should be ridiculed by any means because I understand what he is saying. Favre made mistakes that cost us a chance in the playoffs.
Although on the other hand, I dont think that Kellen Clemans would have made things much better. Favre's mistakes were pretty bad as the season progressed but I dont really think Clemans could have done much better. I thought that former coach Eric Mangini did such a bad job with Favre during the end of the season because he should of seen his arm was practically falling off and made Jones the focus of the team.
I think one thing is clear if Favre comes back next year, it sure as hell will not be with the Jets.

KG Wanted a Minnesota Reunion Maybe?
So there are reports that Stephon Marbury is likely to become a Boston Celtic..... what?
This makes absolute no sense to me because it has been proven time and again that Marbury is a cancer. With the great success the Celtics are having despite a rough West Coast trip, they are still thriving as a team. He has been out of the league for a year due to his ever growing soap opera with the New York Knicks so he is not going to be ready to play basketball probably until February and has just created problems for every one in the city of New York.
The initial thought is that bringing back Starbury-KG combination that KG would be able to contain Marbury with his leadership skills and the fact that they got along in Minnesota. But on the other hand, wasnt it not realized by the Timberwolves that he wasnt the answer to the franchise therefore they brought in Sam Cassell and Latrell Spreewell. I dont know understand that theory for the fact that really he hasnt control any attitude on the Celtics. The more I think about it, KG cannot control his own attitude so what makes some people think he can contorl Marbury attitude?
The other thing that doesnt make sense about this decision is the Celtics have a bevy of back-up guards so there is really isnt a spot for Marbury on the team. You have Tony Allen, Sam Cassell, and Eddie House already plus Cassell barely plays as it is. Unless the thought is, that if Marbury is a Celt that one of those players is on their way out. Marquette Wrap-Up against Villanova
My buddy Mach got tickets to the student section for the game against 13. Villanova today so I decided to check it out as always and because of winter break, the seats were awesome. Third row on the corner of the Bradley Center perfect position to watch the Warriors beat the Wildcats 79-72. Here are few observations about the game and few random ones.
-Marquette played one of the worst halfs I have seen this year and ended up leading in the first half. They just looked out of sorts just bad shots and too many turnovers. We thought Jerel McNeal was hungover in the first half by the way he played.
-Speaking of McNeal, he takes shots that I hate and wouldn't think they'd go in, but they seem to. There were multiple times where Mach would look distressed and the shot falls in. Also a time where I shouted NO and it went in, Mach just laughs. Neither of us had doubt he would nail that three.
-Dominic James shot consistently from the three point line and it was a balanced attack from James. He did it all last night whether it was drain the big shot or a big defensive spot.
-Wes Matthews is the meaning of clutch, he had 16 of the 19 points in the second half. Nova tried a zone and it didnt work, they had no one who could matchup with Matthews all of the second half.
-Marquette does need to cut down their turnovers, they had 18 last night which is way too high if they expect to contend in the Big East this season.
-Supposedly, I made an appearance on ESPN yesterday after McNeal hit the big three, they showed our reaction which is pretty cool and not my last time on ESPN; heres a video of it....

-Joe Alexander, first round pick of the Bucks sat right by us and he was funny to watch with eating peanuts straight out of the can in one hand, and Hawaiian Punch in the other hand. A true American right there.

-Marquette does need to cut down their turnovers, they had 18 last night which is way too high if they expect to contend in the Big East this season.
-Supposedly, I made an appearance on ESPN yesterday after McNeal hit the big three, they showed our reaction which is pretty cool and not my last time on ESPN; heres a video of it....

-Joe Alexander, first round pick of the Bucks sat right by us and he was funny to watch with eating peanuts straight out of the can in one hand, and Hawaiian Punch in the other hand. A true American right there.
