Philly Takes on Pedro

Bare with me that this story is about two days late but like I said in the RJ post, I have been busy doing fun stuff that you couldnt believe. Now on to story...

It has been known for sometime that the Philadelphia Phillies are after pitching after they lost Brett Myers for the season after an ugly hip injury in May. Many think they are the front-runners to get Roy Halladay due to having top-line prospects in the minors but they decided to go after Pedro Martinez.

The thirty-seven year old who dazzled us through in the early 2000s which a great fastball and a sick circle change has faded into the distance with a bunch of injury-riddled years. Martinez has had consistent arm problems in the past three years therefore you wonder if the Phillies are really making the right decision going with Martinez.

Already, Philly has decided to put him on the 15-day DL which probably means his arm isnt ready to pitch 85-100 balls. Or the velocity he is throwing with right now isnt where its supposed to be. If neither of those are the reason why Martinez is on the DL then I think there is something you definitely have to worry about and then I question why the choice was made to bring in a washed-up superstar.

If Pedro can somehow turn out to be even mid-2000 Pedro then look out the Phillies added a force to their rotation. Although if he is anything like the last couple of years, we could ended up seeing Pedro reside in the bullpen.

Screw You Pedro

The big news out of the Brewers camp is the miscommunication involving the Brewer scouts and free agent pitcher Pedro Martinez. Two scouts were supposed to watch Martinez on two occasions this week and both times the three-time Cy Young winner decided that he wasnt going to show up. Sweet move Pedro.

Everyone is assuming that a big market team came in and they have an offer on the table for Martinez although that still doesnt excuse Pedro for choosing not to pitch for the Brewers. Despite my want for Martinez at the beginning of the season, I knew that he wasnt to keen on coming to Milwaukee after saying how much he hates the Brew City during his stint with the New York Mets. In addition, he hasnt been in a small market since his time in Montreal at the beginning of his career giving him no reason to want to live in a place like Milwaukee which I understand although it gives him no reason not to show up then tell the Brewers no thanks.

I really hope that Martinez signs with the Chicago Cubs therefore I can boo the living shit out of him and watch him burn in Wrigley over the summer. I think it would become very interesting if he became a New York Yankee because of how beloved he still is in the city of Boston. If he dons the pinstripes it would be comparable and likely worse than if Favre goes to Minnesota.
