What About a Playoff?

Here's my personal idea on a college football playoff, you have the 6 major conference winners and whoever else in the top 16 of the BCS. Giving a home game to the top 8 teams and have them face-off during the week of Dec. 15, having games on Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday if need be because of final exams. Then have the 8 team playoff during the week before Jan. 1, then have the Final Four on the 1st, 2nd, or 3rd then play a week later. Heres what it will look like...

BYU would be out of it because Virgina Tech jumps them because they won their conference despite being out of the top 16.

16. Virgina Tech at 1. Oklahoma- This would be a battle of pretty solid defense facing a great offense and it will probably result in a Sooner victory as they would likely dominate down the stretch. Oklahoma advances

9. Boise State at 8. Penn State- The Broncos would get to show if they were legit to play in the bowls as they face the tough crowd in Happy Valley. In my opinion, Daryll Clark would be too much for Boise State. Penn St. advances

12. Cincinnati at 5. USC- This would really prove if the Bearcats were for real but they would have to travel to the Coliseum which has proven unforgiving so many times. USC advances.

13. Oklahoma State at 4. Alabama- The Tide would definitely be after revenge and the Cowboys proved they could stop nobody on defense. This game in my opinion would get ugly. Bama advances.

11. TCU at 6. Utah- A rematch of early this year and it was a close battle. This would also probably put the Mountain West on the map because one of these team advances to play one of the big guns. TCU advances.

14. Georgia Tech at 3. Texas- Good matchup, it would be interesting to see how Paul Johnson matches up against the Longhorns. I think you would have a good battle but by the end of the game, the Longhorns would advance.

10. Ohio State at 7. Texas Tech- Another great game could the Buckeyes stop the Red Raiders arsenal? Would the Red Raiders have an answer for Terrelle Pryor, what about Crabtree versus Michael Jenkins. Red Raiders advance.

15. Georgia vs. 2. Florida- The cocktail party part deux but now its in the Swamp instead of a neutral location. These two also have no lost between each other so there would be no lost between each teams but in the end the Gators would get it done again. Florida.

So I only picked one upset but I am sure there would be more because the nature of the game. Now on to the round of 8....

1. Oklahoma vs. 8. Penn State-Cotton Bowl- Giving the Sooners the location advantage, you would have a great matchup featuring two conference winners and a complete slugfest. I will take OU offense, barely though. Oklahoma advances.

4. Alabama vs. 5. USC-Georgia Dome- The Trojans would have to travel across the Mississippi but no one gets up for big games like Pete Carroll's teams do. I think the Trojans defense is a bit better than Bama's. A close defensive battle with the Trojans winning. USC advances.

11. TCU vs. 3. Texas-San Diego- A battle for Texas and a chance for the mid-majors to show their worth. Horned Frogs defense couldnt stop Oklahoma and they sure as hell cant stop Texas as they advance.

7. Texas Tech vs. 2. Florida-Orlando- This game would have so much hype around it because of the two offenses at hand but at the end of the day, its Florida defense that would take them to victory in this one.

Final Four...
1. Oklahoma vs. 5. USC-Sugar Bowl- You have to keep the Trojans away from Pasadena unless they were the overall number one seed so they find themselves in New Orleans for this one. I think this would be down to the wire with the Taylor Mays picking Bradford off in the end zone to seal it.

2. Florida vs. 3. Texas-Rose Bowl- Another game where you would see ratings throughout the roof and the Longhorns go back to Pasadena where they have been very successful throughout the years but Tebow exposes their weak defense in a victory.

2. Florida vs. 5. USC-BCS Nat'l Championship- What a game this would be. The Gators get the advantage playing in the state of Florida. You also get a road-weary Trojans teams traveling to the South for the third straight weekend. This game would be a classic with Tebow running in a touchdown with .03 left on the clock for a Florida win.

One can only dream.
