I know alot of you were watching the Home Run Derby last night and saw the absolute show that Josh Hamilton put on in the first round of the tournament. I mean most of his mind-blowing twenty-eight home runs in the first round where over 450 feet. He had mentioned earlier on in the day how he was going to make it out of Yankee Stadium which has never been done by an MLB player. People like John Kruk where saying "not a chance" before he stepped up then by the end of his run in the first round, Kruk was convinced one might make it out of Yankee Stadium. I have been on the Hamilton bandwagon since reading an SI article when he was in the midst of his comeback. He ended up only getting 8 this rest of the way so I really sucked that he didnt actually win the Derby.
That was done by the Canadian Justin Morneau who my pops said could win with the way he swings the bat. Also Morneau was the lowest homer total of the eight participants in the derby. He did a great job of staying consistant
This guy was an incredible out of HS being able to hit the ball 450 ft. and also throw a 95 mph fastball then he got caught up in heavy drinking and various drugs. Someone on the radio said, “He is playing like a #1 pick” then listed off a couple other #1 who make an impact. Some people do say, “Why do people give him all these credit, he was a drug addict and a drunk.” In my opinion, its a lot like the Len Bias situation, Josh was a young kid who made a ton of mistakes unlike Bias, Hamilton did not die from his mistakes. He battled back into becoming an AL All Star starting in the outfield. How can you not want to cheer for the guy who now regerts his tattoos all over his arms and talks about his expierence with young kids around the area. Even though, he did not win the Home Run Derby, he still was the story of the All-Star break.
Now lets get this Triple Crown, Josh.
-Charlie.
